I just saw an advertisement on television that was advertising their web-site, selecttv.com. Since I was already on my laptop doing my accounts I thought that I would check out the web-site.

I went to visit their web-site and their web-site was down. They were pushing their web-site as their primary point of contact and the action item from their ad didn’t work. Not a good thing…

So what kind of uptime does your web-host guarantee? Are you going to run into this problem with your own web-site, and if so what kind of support will you get in solving the problem?

We host this site and a few others on Host Gator. They have a few different hosting packages and most of their hosting packages offer 99.9% uptime. I have had to deal with Host Gator support twice since we have started hosting with them and both times have been pretty good.

For support Host Gator’s first contact point is live support chat on their web-site. If your problem needs to be escalated further then they offer fairly responsive e-mail support.

So far I would really recommend Host Gator to anyone looking for hosting, in fact I have done that for a few friends, and their experience so far with them as a web-site host has also been very positive.

After looking Select TV’s web-site a bit more I think that the problem is not with their web-site, but rather it is with their redirect from their root domain. So it is their programmers problem, not their hosts problem.
