I’m currently working on a website where we are going to be entering a lot of data into the data base but before we begin on that I am wanting to get the site functioning as well as possible. A design element I am wanting to use on the site is to put rounded corners on certain elements of the site.
I had heard that this was now very easy to do with css and so I started to research. I was also aware that some had developed a way of doing this without any images using javascript. This seemed like the best option as it would cut down the amount of time I would need to create some corners in photoshop and should hopefully reduce any colouring issues I might face.
There are a number of different scripts written. Originally I started by trying to use Transcorners which was based on NIfty Corners but enables some more flexibilty. I then hit a problem by it not loading. I am trying to impliment this on a wordpress site and so wasn’t as straight forward as the tutorials explain.
Probably the one most heard of is niftycorners. Having found this site I then looked into nifty cube corners which has a few more features and is the most recent revision of nifty corners.
One of the things with nifty corners though is that I was wanting a bit more flexibility. The largest diameter was 10 pixels and I was wanting elements with a corner diameter of 15 but with the flexibility of changing it easily later.
I then came across ruzee borders. This was what I had been looking for. It gave me all the flexibility I had been wanting and more. There were things I didn’t even think was possible. So the two highlights I want to point out before you go and check it out for yourself are. The ability to adjust the corner radius as much as possible and the ability to add a glow or shadow to the edge. This was awesome as it now means I can simply tag the divs that I want with corners as well as adding an effect like glow or a drop shadow without even needing to build and slice a background image in photoshop. I’ve only just implemented it into the site as I’m developing it but I have been happy so far. If I have any more findings you can find it updated here.
